Beginners Yoga
Please email me to register interest for beginners classes.
An hours class introducing you to the alignment based principles of Anusara Yoga. Generally starting with some centering and breath work followed by working on different asanas - a mixture of standing and seated poses. Introducing students to gentle Sun Salutations so they can learn to move with their breath. Finishing with some restorative poses and returning to breath work leaving you feeling restored and renewed. By the end of the block of 5 classes most students will be ready to join my Level 1 Classes.
I plan on running a Beginners course twice a year in January and September. Why not give it a try - and email me to register interest. Alternatively I can offer private beginners classes on a one to one basis or in small groups.

Developing the Anusara Universal Principles of Alignment to help explore a wider variety of asanas to help you to really feel the poses in different ways. Then layering some theming on top of this so you can start to feel the magic. Themes so far have included Virtual Holidays, the Elements and the Malas.
The next block of classes will be themed around stories about the wonderful elephant headed god, Ganesha! Find out how he got a broken tusk and why he rides a mouse!

Restorative and Yoga Nidra
The ultimate hour of self love. Allowing your body time to stretch and restore and then once you are fully relaxed to allow your mind the opportunity to be completely at ease. Think of this as a Spa Break and I offer a recording as the final session as part of all my blocks of classes so you can indulge in this practice several times.
About me
Jen Hughes
I am currently teaching online live-streamed yoga classes to wherever you are through zoom. My yoga studio is in a fabulous old church in Perthshire and I also have a small studio in Edinburgh and if I'm lucky spend as much time as I can in Portugal.

I originally started practising yoga in Singapore nearly twelve years ago. I rediscovered my love of yoga when we came back to the UK due to various sport injuries through golf and running.

The best thing about lockdown has been signing up for a teacher training course with my first yoga teacher from Singapore. I have also attended several mindfulness courses which I have loved integrating in my yoga classes. Yoga is not just about making fancy poses with your body - it also helps you quieten your mind and develop the poses from the inside out. I have had several careers from chartered surveyor to primary teacher and now love putting my "teaching hat" on to help others feel better both emotionally as well as physically.

I try to make my lessons fun and hope to leave you feeling uplifted when you leave your yoga practice. Everyone could use more yoga in their lives, so why not seize the moment and go to the booking page. I hope to see you on the mat soon. Namaste.

Testimonials
I jumped into teaching yoga straight after graduating from my 200 hour Teacher Training Course to raise funds for Alzheimers Research UK in memory of my stepfather who sadly passed away the day after I qualified. Due to covid, I was in Portugal and unable to attend the funeral so started fundraising as a way to do my bit.

My fundraising yoga before New Year raised over £2,000 and I'm going to continue to donate as much as I can from the proceeds of all my classes. Thanks to all my current students for helping me keep this going and to all those who donated or joined me on the mat for my fundraising efforts.

The current total is now £3,212!

What is Anusara Yoga!

"I love the way Anusara Yoga helps me keep safe on the mat. Being able to merge mindfulness, meditation and breath with safe alignment in asanas helps me feel secure and uplifted."
Anusara means to "flow with grace" - enabling us to deal with the flux and flows of life and take the benefits of our practice on the mat off into our everyday lives.
Anusara Yoga is a modern school of Hatha yoga and is uniquely structured by the five Universal Principles of Alignment (UPAs) which teachers use to ensure their students are safe and steady in their yoga practice.
